Brooklyn-based j.viewz brings us a delightfully intriguing twist on music production in the video below, in which he uses fruits and vegetables to play a cover of 'Teardrop' by Massive Attack. The track is perhaps best known as the theme song from the hit TV series House, but j.viewz gives it a breath of fresh air by repurposing it for this amazing, sonic science experiment.
What's going on here is that the fruits and vegetables complete the electrical circuits that produce the sounds you're hearing by providing a conductive liquid for electrical currents to travel through. j.viewz is using something called a 'Makey Makey,' a device that allows you to turn objects into touchpads that you can then link up to any program via your computer. In this case, the Makey Makey is linked up to music production software which is how taps on an eggplant can turn into a bass beat.
Any way you look at it, being able to play music by bopping your favorite fruits and veggies is undeniably rad, even if it's just for giggles.
